What is Portfolist?
Portfolist is a place where you can find professional website designs ready to use by anyone. Portfolist's websites can be used by photographers, artists, illustrators, art galleries or anyone else who might benefit from a product such as this. Using Portfolist will allow you to create, update and publish your website very easyly without any programming knowledge. We also offer custom design and development.
How Portfolist works?
Portfolist offers different
designs and
package options. In a few steps you will have your website live. Choose your design, choose your package, upload your work, personalize the design (if you desire) and publish your website. Portfolist has a "User Guide" for each design to help you to build your website every step of the way.
Can I try before I buy it?
Yes. Just go to
Try Demo and submit your request. Portfolist will send you all instructions by email in order to use a fully functional Portfolist website.
What are the key features of Portfolist?
Portfolist is very easy to use and implement. You can personalize it with your own style. Bulid and update your website with a content management system. You can upload unlimited images. Can I built and update my website by myself?
Yes, of course! This is one of our main features. We deliver professional websites integrated with a very easy admin tool (Rainbow CMS) that will help you to build and manage your website yourself without any programming knowledge. We also offer several options and services. Please visit

System Requirements
You can work on any platform, Apple Macintosh OSX or Windows PC and no special server configurations are needed. You can host your website on almost any server.

Can I use my own server?
Yes, you can use your own server. Portfolist can also host your website if you prefer. Just add "Hosting" in the checking process. This is an optional service.
Domain License
Your Porfolist's website can be used only with one domain. You will specify this domain in the check out process. Also, each package comes with its unique Doamin Key in order to enable the Rainbow CMS application.
Software Requirements
Porftfolist works with your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari...). You may also need an image processing software such as Photoshop or similar to edit your images and have them ready to upload via Rainbow CMS. If you don't have any, you can try
Pixlr. That is a photo editing service with advanced online image and photo editing tools.

Domain Setup and Management
Portfolist can help you to buy, setup and manage your domain name. You will keep the rights to the domain name... you own it. The domain name can be transfered for you any time at your request.
Portfolist Hosting Service
Portfolist can provide hosting and set up everything for you.
What is Rainbow CMS?
Rainbow is a browser based XML editor that allows you to visually edit your data (content) using a simple node based approach. It enables you to edit live XML data located on your web server.

Builder Services
This is a personalized service taking care of everything from installation to a published and running website. You will send all content to us and we will setup and build the website for you.
Maintenance
This is an option available only on the Plus Package. We will collaborate with you and update your website. Choosing this option you can receive design and cms udpates to enhance your website with new features and tools. For more information visit

Add background Music
Edit the music item. Upload a mp3 file clicking on the file icon. The default volumen is 100. This value can be adjusted from 0 (minimum) to 100 (maximum).
Installation
Package Content
Your package is a .zip file that includes everything you need. Portfolist will send you an email with instrucctions on how to download your package.
Upload Package
Uncompress the .zip file and upload it to your server. Keep exactly the same structure and name of all files included. You can upload them into a "preview" folder in order to build your website first and then post it online. You can also rename "index.php" to "preview.php"
Some easy CMS setting configuration could be necessary.
CMS Basic Functions
When you launch the Rainbow CMS application it will open with a new empty Project (root). From here you can add the default Portfolist Project and go from there. You will do this only one time. The next time you log-in, your project will be loaded automatically.
The buttons:
The "Properties" button opens up the items' property window where you may edit attributes, text and child templates.
The "Expand" button shows an item's children.
The "Collapse" button hides an item's children.
The "Add Child" button opens the "Add Child" dialog and allows you to add a new blank item or instance of a Rainbow template to an item.
The "Delete" button deletes an item. All of the item's children will also be deleted.
The "Move" button allows you to drag and drop items, change their order and reparent items.
The "Publish" button is used to turn an item's visibility on or off. The item will not be deleted.
CMS Domain Key
To active your CMS you will need to configure the FTP first.
To enter the domain key go to:
http://www.yourwebsite.com/admin and enter your admin user name and password. You have the default user name and password sent by Portfolist or your own if you already modified those. Then go to "Preferences" to edit the Registration by pasting or typing your domain key. Close the window and click "Save". See images below.

Enter your FTP access settings (on red):
This section contains options for FTP file transfer (the default). Code and Visual -
Rainbow CMS - provide courtesy scripts that enable the FTP transfer of your files. This allows a domain on a static server to harness the power of Rainbow Live. You can choose to target your own custom FTP scripts is you wish, or turn FTP mode off all together by setting the "FTP" value to "false". This will then enable server/php mode which will require you to place PHP files on your server.

User Name and Password
To change your CMS user name and password access go to:
http://www.yourwebsite.com/admin and edit the "Users" item. Enter your admin, user name and password and "Save."
Domain name setup
Edit Website item and enter you domain name. It should be "yourwebsite.com" without "http://" and/or "www". It will define the logo's click url returning to your website intro and values on the "Share" menu options.
